Privacy Policy — Whale Drop

Last updated: 22 October 2026

Whale Drop is an app that reminds you to drink and keeps count of the water you drink during the day. This policy explains which data it handles and what leaves your phone.

In short: privacy comes first. There is no account, no advertising, and we never store or sell your personal data. Everything you log stays on your device; the only things that leave your phone are the weather request, if you turn it on, and anonymous usage statistics, which you can turn off.

Data that stays on your device

The app stores locally, in its private storage:

This data is not transmitted to anyone: it never leaves the phone, except through Android's system backup if you have enabled it in your device settings (in that case Google handles it, under its own terms).

You can delete everything at any time by uninstalling the app or clearing its data from Android settings. The steps are on the Delete your data page.

Location: only for the weather, only if you turn it on

The "Adjust to weather" feature is off by default. If you choose to enable it, the app asks for the approximate location permission (ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION) and uses it solely to raise your daily goal on hot days.

How it works in detail:

Your location is not stored by the app, is not linked to any identifier, is not shared with anyone and is not used for any other purpose. If you turn off "Adjust to weather" or deny the permission, no network request is made and the app keeps working normally.

Open-Meteo is a third-party service that processes data under its own policy, available at open-meteo.com. Whale Drop sends no personal data beyond the approximate coordinates needed for the weather request.

Anonymous usage statistics

To understand which features are used, whether the first setup is clear and where the app has problems, Whale Drop sends anonymous usage statistics. They help us find problems and improve the app, and contain nothing that identifies you.

What is sent:

What is never sent: amounts in ml, profile data (sex, age, weight, height, pregnancy), location, times, names of your favorites, phone or install identifiers. Each time the app is opened it uses a random session number that is not saved and cannot link different days together.

The statistics go to Aptabase (eu.aptabase.com), which collects them on our behalf on servers in the European Union, in Germany, and does not use them for anything else. To count sessions Aptabase briefly uses the IP address in a non-reversible form and does not keep it. Details at aptabase.com.

You can turn them off at any time in Settings → Data → Anonymous usage statistics: from then on the app sends nothing. Being anonymous, they cannot be traced back to you or deleted per person.
